Mitsubishi ASX Accessories Guide: Protect Your Vehicle
In the same way, vehicles are becoming more and more complex, the aftermarket world is also getting vast. Mitsubishi aftermarket accessories, unlike OEM ones, are not as limited when it comes to design and availability. Although the former is more generic and universal, they are also more fitting.
These two conflicting yet mutual features of aftermarket parts help make them superior to OEM parts when it comes to customisability. Not only can you customise your ASX, but you can also customise the part you’re getting. But what if your ASX is fairly new and you like the way it looks? Then, you’re better off keeping its design protected which can also be done with Mitsubishi aftermarket accessories.
Bonnet Protectors
What Are They?
A simple piece of plastic that stretches along the lip of your bonnet can keep your windshield safe from flying debris. A bonnet guard or deflector comes available in different designs. All of its design options are protective Mitsubishi ASX accessories that also improve curb appeal and aerodynamics.
Material
Honestly, acrylic is the best material for bonnet guards. The toughest bonnet protector is going to be made of impact-modified acrylic which will last you a long time. No stones or bugs will be able to scratch and stain your windshield and the sun won’t make the guard fade as quickly.
Types
There are two types of bonnet protectors when it comes to their design and another two when it comes to their installation process. When it comes to the design of bonnet guards you can either choose between universal or vehicle-specific. The former are able to fit any vehicle while the latter will only fit your ASX.
There are screw-on and self-adhesive bonnet guards when it comes to the way you install them. While self-adhesive guards are easier to install than screw-on guards, these Mitsubishi ASX car accessories are not as secure. There are also some bonnet guards that use a combination of adhesive strips and screws which makes them the best of both worlds.
Headlight Protectors
What Are They?
Although sometimes you won’t even notice them, headlight covers or protectors as they’re also known are able to provide enough protection to keep the headlights safe from scratches. These protective Mitsubishi ASX accessories enhance the appeal of your ASX too. There is nothing to impede the beam of the lights and thus they appear to be clearer and make your ASX even more aesthetically pleasing.
Types
There are two types of headlight protectors you can put on your ASX. These include film and plastic covers.
Film headlight protectors are able to provide the minimum level of protection from scratches and nicks and these Mitsubishi ASX car accessories are also easier to install. Film covers are more easily integrated into the design of your ASX too.
Plastic headlight protectors, on the other hand, are rigid and strong thus more protective. Plastic headlight covers are more difficult to install and can make the way your ASX looks a bit odd since they stick out a bit. Plastic covers are also more noticeable than ones made from film.
Rain Guards
What Are They?
Also known as weather shields or side window deflectors, rain guards are similar in shape to bonnet protectors. They too are narrow and made of plastic but they do curve to accommodate the shape of the window sills. Like bonnet protectors, rain guards also provide protection but they are more noticeable than bonnet protectors.
One thing that rain guards allow and bonnet protectors don’t, is to help keep yourself cool without the AC. This can be especially done on a rainy day. Just crack open the window and fresh air will enter without rain splashing inside and your AC on full blast.
Types
Just like bonnet protectors though, rain guards are also available in two different variations when it comes to their installation process. You can either get stick-on or in-channel weather shields.
Stick-on guards, as you’d expect, are applied by removing the backing on the adhesive and sticking them onto the frame of the window. While these are easier to install, they are also not as secure as in-channel guards.
In-channel guards go into the channel of the window, where the glass sits. You will have a hard time installing these weather shields but you will be able to use them for a lot longer. Keep in mind, though, that although in-channel weather shields are more secure they can start to rattle once they are near the end of their lifespan.
Bullbars
What Are They?
Going over to more rigid Mitsubishi ASX car accessories, bullbars. These accessories are usually made of metal. They can be made of plastic too but steel and aluminium are more common. Made up of metal tubes, bullbars sit in front of the grille and are bolted to the chassis.
Benefits
Why use bullbars? Well, because they can keep the engine bay components of your ASX safe from collisions with animals, as well as, inanimate objects. Not only is the exterior of your ASX safe but so are you. Believe me, you’re better off replacing a bull bar than a radiator and a bumper, or maybe even a bonnet cover.
Types
When it comes to bullbar designs there are plenty to choose from. There are bumper bars that provide the lowest level of protection and nudge bars that have an aesthetic purpose rather than a protective one. For proper protection from frontal collisions, there are single and triple hoop bull bars.
The former are lighter and provide a solid level of protection while the latter is heavier and it will keep you safe in animal-strike prone areas. You can also choose between Baja and competition bull bars.
A Baja bar is similar to a bumper bar but they can be used with winches and have additional reinforcement. Competition bullbars are used in off-roading competitions as they offer ample protection and can be swapped easily.
